Background - The path to East Khanid - the founders' story

East Khanid Trading, while being a newly formed corp, has a long history behind it. History is, according to some philosophers, a window into the future - the past has a direct impact on the present, and shapes what is to come. The formation of East Khanid Trading has a rich past, and by looking at our History, some keen insights into the present and future might be gained...
To fully appreciate how and why East Khanid Trading came into being, it's worth looking into the history of the founding members, and seeing how their careers were shaped and moulded in the passage of time, leading them to the establishment of EKT and the present day.
In Year 105, Omithar and Agal Peberg graduated from university and applied for employment at a small corporation in High-Security Empire space. Little did they know at the time, the corp they had joined was soon to go through some restructuring. Having quickly proven herself as a capable leader, Agal stepped up to the plate and agreed to take on the position of CEO. Omithar, having formed a close friendship with Agal during their time serving together prior to the crisis, was working closely with Agal, giving her the full support she needed to see the corp through the restructuring successfully.
As part of this, Agal, Omithar, and the core of the members in the corporation moved not only the focus of the corp, but also the location. They moved to Aridia, a region at the time infested with both pirates and opportunities. It wasn't long before this old corp with a new vision established itself in the region, made friends and allies (even some "unsavoury" ones!), and was soon a founding corporation in an informal alliance of like-minded corps looking to provide a framework for mutual protection, as well as mutual support in joint operations, including massive mining operations, pirate eradication, and more. The corp prospered, even going so far as to run fairly regular mining ops deep into the Fountain region without seeking the 0.0 day passes demanded by the inhabitants of those systems.
After about a year, the corp underwent some further re-structuring, allowing groups of members with different ambitions to focus on their particular goals. The old structure couldn't readily support the new needs of the members, and so a decision was made to split the existing corporation into 3, and for them to go their own way and focus one what each group deemed as being most important to them. One group moved into 0.0 space with some of the more rebellious allies they had made. The second group focussed on mission running. The third group stayed in Aridia and tried to continue the success brought about under the office of Agal as CEO.
At the time of the re-structuring, both Agal and Omithar moved into the newly founded corp focussed on mission running, and were actively involved in the management and success of this new corp. Both the 0.0 based corp and the mission-running corp Agal and Omithar had joined flourished, and still remained in contact and as friends. About a year later, these two corps were actually united under the same alliance in 0.0 space.
After a while serving in the mission-running corp, both Omithar and Agal decided to try out new things, and moved down into Amarr space. Together with some of their old corp mates, they joined an industrial-focussed corporation based in Devoid on the border with Derelik. This new corp was a welcome home for both of them, and for a while they both put their hearts into it, and learned and contributed a great deal along the way.
For personal reasons, Agal decided the time was right to explore on her own, and so went off in search of new adventures. Omithar, on the other hand, was getting more and more involved in the new corporation, and had taken on a role in the security division. It wasn't long before his talents and skills were recognised, and Omithar found himself being promoted to the Head of Security, as well as a director of the corp. Part of the attraction of this new corporation were their ideas in terms of the internal economy. It was loosely based around a concept of helping eachother out, while still having a kind of "individual economy" flavour to it. This was a refreshing change from the more common approach in more dictatorial corps where the members are expected to mine with no real view of reaping the rewards in the long-term, if ever.
It was shortly after Agal left this new corp in search of her own fortune, and after Omithar had been promoted to the role of Director, that Rye graduated from university and sought out a new corporation to work for. After a short stint in a start-up corporation consisting of a few friends from university, Rye found the corp that Omithar was in, and after considering the pros and cons, decided to apply for employment there. Rye soon proved herself as a capable member, and what she lacked in experience, she made up for in vision and dedication. Not long after joining the corp, Rye too was a director, heading up the Trade Division, and implementing several automated systems to transform and improve the production and trade capabilities of the corp.
Unfortunately, though both Rye and Omithar felt that the corp offered a lot, and that it was better set up than most others they had served in, they became a little frustrated. They both felt that they had a lot of input to give, but that trying to enforce their vision on the existing corporation would be to risk it's potential for success. So rather than look to impose change from within, Omithar and Rye decided to step down, and seek to establish a new corporation based on more social policies where the support between the members and the corporation would be a more mutual, symbiotic arrangement. This was not an easy decision to make, since their time in this corporation had taught them both a lot, but their love of the corp is what prompted them to move on, rather than risk damaging that which they loved.
The main difference was that both Omithar and Rye wanted to establish a corporation that promoted the growth and development of its members, encouraged a higher level of activity, and rewarded its members for their participation in a more direct fashion. While the corp that they were both serving at the time did this to some degree, it was felt by Omithar and Rye that a more radical approach could be made to work too. In addition to this, there were several other ideas and goals in mind for inspiring loyalty in their employees that didn't "sit well" with the existing corp's policies.
Shortly after making the decision to go out and try this new approach to management, Omithar and Rye realised that it would be beneficial to bounce some ideas off another experienced person. As it turned out, Agal had decided to look for new adventure at the time too, and so after some revelations of the concepts and ideas Omithar and Rye had in mind, Agal became the third entrepreneur seeking to establish this new corp using the novel approach to management. Rye suggested the Khanid Kingdom as a base of operations, mainly because she had been born there (though to parents of the Caldari race), and had always felt an affiliation with the region, with the people and culture, and to King Khanid II. As it turned out, both Omithar and Agal had similar ties and affiliations, and they determined to return to the Khanid Kingdom and establish their new corp in the region they felt it most belonged.
A long period of discussion and planning followed, with the combined experiences of all parties involved being brought to the fore, and the resulting brainstorming sessions resulted in the seed of the idea that soon became East Khanid Trading late in Year 108. The most positive aspects of their experiences in other corporations were adopted into the founding charter, and were expanded upon where necessary to fit in with the founders' vision. The management structure and internal ranking systems were developed in such a way that all employees in the corporation stand to benefit according to their efforts in helping the corp succeed. Essentially, the corporation is an expression of what the founding members see as the ideal.
East Khanid Trading is loyal to Khanid II, the rightful heir and ruler of the Khanid Kingdom. It subscribes to the philosphies of the Kingdom, though the experiences of the founding members in other regions has made them a little more liberal in some ways, and a little more fundamentalist in others. In particular, East Khanid Trading has been established with a more socialist democratic method of management than is common in Khanid, and is more open to the acquisition and exploitation of technologies whatever the source. The corporation seeks to align itself with the Khanid Kingdom and fully supports the headship of Khanid II as king of the Khanid Empire, and regularly runs support missions for the Kingdom and her allies to further strengthen the King's position.
Shortly after the establishment of East Khanid Trading, several members of Omithar and Rye's old corporation signed up, having been inspired by the vision expressed by the founders. In addition, some of Agal's old friends in other corporations, and even in old competing corporations, were also so inspired by the vision for the corporation as described to them, that they too signed up. In fact, some of the employees to join EKT within her first few weeks used to be in a competing corporation at war with a mercenary corporation that Agal was temporarily in at the time! These pilots were in a small corporation which had a more social approach to corp management, and a generally friendly outlook. Even in the midst of battle, mutual respect and friendship was forged, and when Agal made it known that EKT was being set up, some of these pilots decided to seek to become part of the vision that is East Khanid Trading, and hopefully be in a position to learn from the knowledge shared by EKT's experienced pilots.
Within a few short weeks, East Khanid Trading has attracted more experienced pod pilots to their ranks than many corporations experience within months of operating. Add to this the regular employees handling the general activities within the corporation such as running the offices, repair bays, stock controllers, cleaners, factory workers, etc, and the growth of EKT has been absolutely phenomenal.
One thing all employees in EKT have in common is a sense of belonging - of being part of a bigger whole, and knowing that individual success relies on the success of those around you, and the corp as a whole. This is such a core principle within East Khanid Trading that it is rigorously defended and enforced where necessary. There is no room in EKT for leechers and self-serving hypocrits. It is this hard-line policy that attracts the kind of pilot to EKT that the corp is looking for. Knowing that everyone around you is working towards a common goal, that everyone shares the same basic philosophy, and that everyone is willing to help you become a success in return for you helping them, is key to the way EKT operates. Anyone who does not share this approach, and is not working for the common good, will soon be found out and, according to the corporation policy, will be ejected from the corporation. The end result is a dedicated core of individual pilots working as one team for the betterment of themselves, eachother, and the corporation!
A strong affinity to the Khanid Kingdom is expressed as "desirable" in all prospective employees, or, failing that, strong ties to Caldari State and/or the Amarr Empire are also considered "desirable". EKT will consider pilots from all backgrounds, though as part of their terms of employement, all employees must subscribe to the corporation affiliation with the Khanid Kingdom, and are expected to correct their standings with Khanid, Amarr and Caldari factions during their employment. While there is an open-door policy on joining, in order to progress up the ranks while employed, it is in the employees best interests to strengthen their affiliations in alignment with those of the corporation sooner rather than later.
It seems that East Khanid Trading is off to a good start, and the strong history and common experiences amongst the founding members has provided a strong base for the corp to be built upon. It seems that Year 109 is stacking up to be an amazing year for East Khanid Trading, and the Khanid region too.
EKT as it stands today, early in Year 109, looks set to be the core, the foundation, that the corporation will to grow upon - a core of gifted and social pod-pilots. The corporation has been set up drawing the best practices and procedures from the combined experiences of its founding members, pulling in the positive aspects of their exposure to many different types of corporations and life-styles within the pod-pilot communities throughout EVE. The current short term goal of the corporation has been hinted as being to get the corporation more strongly aligned to the Khanid Kingdom, in preparation should the rumours of the Faction Warfare threats sweeping through the underground news subnets turn out to be true. Part of this will be through getting all of their members to improve their standings with the Khanid Kingdom, but will also include ramping up the mining, production and trade capabilities of the corporation to give EKT a solid foundation to operate from.
Starting out in Kihtaled in East Khanid, just 1 jump from the capital system of Khanid Prime, East Khanid Trading is looking to make a big impact on the region as a whole, starting in the Eastern systems, but soon expanding to become a force to be reckoned with throughout the Khanid Kingdom, both economically and, should the need arise, militarily too.
In the medium term, EKT has expressed an interest in expanding into some lower security systems to exploit some of the opportunities for higher profits available to their more brave and/or experienced members. Longer term goals have hinted at possibly looking to perform a similar expansion into 0.0 space, either through trade agreements, day passes, or even perhaps some day through some form of alliance, though naturally long-term plans are far from set in stone at this stage in the life of the corporation.
In the Year 109, the citizens in Khanid Kingdom will see a new force being built, a force of social, gifted people - working for their own wealth through the framework provided by their corporation. A corporation where the benefit of the corporation means the benefit of all its members. Where the supply chain is structured in such a way that everyone in the chain stands to benefit from working in it. Where the corporation actively helps its members improve their skills and increase their capabilities, assets, and wealth. A corporation where success is measured not only by the size of its wallet, but by the loyalty, dedication, and happiness of its members.
Year 109 is the year of East Khanid Trading.
