Skills, Experience and Corp Structure - About East Khanid Trading

Recruitment - Skills, Experience and Corp Structure 2006-12-21 10:00:35
Rye
East Khanid Trading has only one real requirement from our employees - commitment. By this we mean that you should be as committed to making EKT a success as you are for yourself. EKT believes in a more social and communal approach to corporation management, and as such we expect our members to be reasonably active, to work for the benefit of the corp as well as themselves, and to adhere to our organisation structure and policies.

In exchange for your dedication and participation, EKT has a rich and extensive system of disciplines (skill sets), ranking and management, with decent rewards for promotions in these areas. Everyone in EKT stands to benefit from their efforts, even those who are not looking for responsibility in management but rather are looking for a corp to help them achieve their maximum potential.

We do NOT expect you to log in every day, and we do NOT expect your RL commitments and relationships to suffer because you feel obliged to be online with us. At EKT all we really ask is that when you are online that you get involved in the life of the corp. At the end of the day, EVE is a game and we understand that RL issues need to take precedence. Real life does and always will come first in EKT.

EKT recognises that not all players in EVE want to be managers, just as is the case in RL. Some people just prefer to specialise in their chosen field and would like to be supported in doing this. As a result, EKT uses a concept of Disciplines. Each Discipline consists of a set of skills, and is broken down into 10 Levels. To sign up with a Discipline usually requires just some basic skills that almost any new player will either have, or will be able to train within a day or two.

To be promoted to the next level in your chosen Discipline, there are several requirements. Firstly, there are skill requirements - you need to train your existing skills to a certain level in order to get promoted. Secondly, there are some additional requirements depending on the Discipline. For example, miners may be required to participate in a certain number of corp mining ops (we're reasonable about this stuff - you won't be slaving away for months on end!), while mission runners may be required to raise their standing with one or more of our three main factions that we're aligned to, and Producers may need to build a few things for the corp, etc. Basically, the money raised by the corp through your participation then gets used to provide you with your promotion rewards...

"Rewards? What rewards?" you ask... Well, this is where EKT gives back to our members. At each stage in your Discipline promotion, you will be provided with the skills needed in order to be promoted to the next level. In addition, some other items and bonuses may be included. For example, when you are ready for it and have reached the appropriate level in the Mining discipline, the corp will actually provide you with a mining barge and the strip miners to use with it! In some of the missions / combat disciplines, you might be provided with a Tech 2 ship! Obviously, the balance between the promotion requirements and the rewards is carefully monitored... think of it like working for a company in RL... after a while you get promoted and get a company car to use (although in EKT you get to keep whatever we give you as a reward)

So that's disciplines in a nut-shell... you work for EKT in whatever field or fields you're most interested in (multiple disciplines are encouraged, but not required) and along the way help out the corp and your fellow corp members. As you progress up the skill levels, as long as you are also participating in corp ops or completing assigned tasks to off-set the cost of the promotion rewards, the corp will help you by supplying the essentials you need in order to keep making progress!

Note that there has been no talk about having to take on any additional responsibilities in order to progress in the Disciplines. At EKT we want people to do what they enjoy without feeling burdened, and so it's up to you as a member to decide if you want to try and progress up the management ranks too...

Naturally, there are rewards for promotions in management too, although these are of necessity quite different. Essentially, EKT is broadly split into 2 Divisions - the Security Division and the Industrial Division. Each Division has it's own Council (controlling body) which oversees the development of that division as a whole, as well as the interaction with the other division(s) in EKT. Within each division there are departments (e.g. for Industrial this includes Mining, Production and Trade, and for Security includes Defence, Exploration and Faction Relations (missions)). Each Department has 5 Key Disciplines. There is a formula used for calculating points based on the levels in those 5 Disciplines, as well as any additional Disciplines a player might be following. These "points" are used to calculate your potential rank in each department.

Note that you can hold rank in multiple departments. Also note the use of the word "potential" in the last sentence of the previous paragraph. Basically, your rank will be determined by several other factors too - the main one being your willingness to take on more responsibility in organising and running corp ops in your department(s), but also including such factors as previous experience, level of activity and participation, and also on the Council members in that department's Division approving the promotion. The idea is that people who want to take on some responsibility can do so, and will be rewarded for their time and effort, but those who want to concentrate on their chosen Disciplines instead won't be penalised either.

Ok, so far you know EKT has two main Divisions, with some Departments in each Division. The Departments all have their own ranking, and while Rank is partially dependant on Disciplines, Disciplines can be pursued without necessarily seeking out rank. You also know that each Division has a Council responsible for the running of the Division as a whole, and that the Councils work together when they need to...

Sitting above the Industrial Council and the Security Council is an Executive Council. The Executive Council is made up of the most dedicated and experienced players (in terms of running a corp, not necessarily in terms of SP or Disciplines!) who have agreed to take on the additional responsibilities required in keeping a corp like EKT functioning at its peak. The Executive Council will seldom directly interfere with the running of the individual Divisions, but serve rather as a governing body for things like disputes, times of crisis, overall corp vision and goals, etc. It is the Executive Council members who are Directors (in EVE-terms) of the corporation, and who are responsible for keeping EKT going strong!

So... what do YOU need before you will be accepted as a member of EKT?

You should be active in EVE, as well as in our forums. We're only interested in active players who want to be a part of something bigger than themselves, and who want to be a part of a corp with vision and focus.

You should be willing to work as part of a team, and participate in regular corp ops (activities which will benefit the corp as well as yourself). If you're just looking for a corp to join because you want to be in a corp, then EKT is not for you. If you're looking for a corp to be part of, to contribute towards and be decently rewarded for your efforts, then EKT is definitely worth your consideration!

You should be aware that EKT rewards participation and activeness, but that the reverse is also true. In order to get promoted and obtain the all the benefits we have to offer, you need to participate regularly. If you go AFK for long periods (more than a month for example) without letting us know, you can expect to be demoted, or even ejected from the corp in severe cases.

You should want to have fun, rather than just being a total capitalist looking to become a "virtual billionaire". We all want shiny toys, cool ships, nice mods, and everything else the game has to offer, and we all want to help eachother in achieving those goals. If you're a little too self-centred for a more communal approach to corp management where we essentially all help eachother along the way, then you might want to look elsewhere. If, however, you don't mind taking part in corp ops with other employees (soon to be new friends!), are willing to help the corp build up it's ability to support and encourage all our members, and generally are just friendly, supportive, and helpful yourself, then fly over to Kihtaled VIII - Royal Khanid Navy Assembly Plant and sign up!
